WRITER'S WORKSHOP
Welcome to the new Sci Fi - Arizona Writer's Workshop. Many people have commented (with varying degrees of vehemence) on the rather lackadaisical way I have been updating the monthly articles of late. I plead guilty as charged! Sometimes there is just too much going on at the beginning of each month to update the articles. To solve this problem, I have reformatted the articles and arranged them such that loading them online is simply a matter of a few clicks rather than the hour or so that preparing them for upload used to take. To get everything synchronized, we are beginning both The Art of Writing and The Art of Science Fiction from the start. That way, we won't miss anything. As always, if you get impatient with the pace of delivery, you can always go to the Non-Fiction link to the left and actually purchase the books! (End crass commercial.)
For people who are new to the website, this is the section where we publish articles of interest to writers. We have two main discussion forums: 1) general advice and techniques for writers, and 2) the special needs of science fiction writing. If you are now a writer, wish to be a writer in the future, or are interested in the craft of writing, you will find both forums to be interesting. The articles are available for download in PDF format.
THE ART OF WRITING SERIESGeneral Advice For WritersTHIS MONTH'S ARTICLEThe Psychology of ReadersIt isn't enough for writers to understand their own psychology. Writing is an act that takes place between consenting adults -- the writer and the reader. While it is important to know what is going on in your own head, it is far more important to know what is going on in the readers'. There are a number of DOs and DON'Ts of which writers should be aware if they are going to be successful. This month we discuss several of them. PREVIOUS MONTH'S ARTICLES: The Psychology of Writers |
